Bangkok Pavilion on the weekends offers some of the most authentic and affordable Thai dishes in Kansas City on their buffet. No need to fear, it doesn’t taste like buffet food. Using high quality ingredients, they make everything in small batches to keep it hot and fresh. Buffet is about $12 per person and is all you can eat. Don’t miss the Thai BBQ pork, Crispy fish with chili sauce and the green papaya salad. Finish with a warm purple taro root and tapioca in coconut cream as your dessert.  It is busy on the weekends but very attentive by the staff. Help is always friendly.

We tried it a few months ago and found the food fresh and tasty. The fried items were not greasy, and it was really great. We have been back several times now, and it is consistently good. I have had Thai food on the streets of Bangkok and can say this is not over-Americanized!

A few nights later, we returned with our friends. The dining room was bustling with several large groups of native Thai diners. "That's a good sign," so…. "It means the food is probably very authentic."

They're Back!  After being struck by lightning they have rebuilt and are serving again and the food is delicious as it was before. Wow, the green curry is very flavorful and the whole fish with its special sauce is just fantastic.

I've traveled to Bangkok 8 times. I've also completed the full Thai cooking courses. But when I'm back home in Kansas City and don't feel like cooking myself, I head out to Bangkok Pavilion. The food is identical to what I have when in Bangkok. I find most American Thai restaurants cater to the American taste which means the Thai food has more of a Chinese flavor and ingredients than Thai. Bangkok Pavilion is pure Thai.

Weekend buffet is awesome, weekday buffet is good.  Food off the menu is much better than buffet. The crab Rangoon is different in a great way. A friend of mine wishes they sold them in a 20 piece bucket like KFC :)Staff is friendly, food is consistently great, and prices are much better than that "other Thai" restaurant.

The Royal Thai Government’s “Thai Select” Award certifies that the food, the hospitality and the atmosphere of the restaurant is authentic. Chefs must be carefully trained in the preparation of benefice Thai meals. Receiving this prestigious award isn’t easy; the bar is set high and the guidelines are strict. Still through training and inspections, only high standard Thai restaurants worldwide have achieved this distinction.

So anywhere in your travels, look for the stamp of approval “Thai Select”. It assures you that delicious Thai cuisine is being served in a pleasant atmosphere, and with a famous Thai smile. It’s not just a meal; it’s a journey.
